Raise the Age Louisiana, SB 324 is headed to the Senate Monday, May 2 and we need your help to get it passed!

4/26/2016

Earlier this month, hundreds of young people gathered on the steps of the Capitol for Youth Justice Day. They joined with Governor John Bel Edwards in calling on the legislature to pass SB 324 — Raise the Age Louisiana Act — to include 17-year-olds in the juvenile justice system, holding kids accountable in age-appropriate settings.

The Senate Judiciary B Committee heard their calls, and unanimously passed SB 324. Now, the bill is headed to the Senate floor for its next vote.  We need your help in telling senators to vote YES on SB 324. You can make a difference in the following ways:

  • Click here to email your senators and tell them why it is imperative to pass Raise the Age.
  • Click to tweet: #RaisetheAgeLA will keep our kids and communities safe. I told my senator to support #SB324 - & you should too!  http://bit.ly/1or8CQ7
    • Copy and paste to post: Louisiana is one of only 9 states that automatically prosecute all 17-year-olds as adults, even for the most minor offenses. This is bad for kids and bad for public safety. I told my senator it's time to #RaisetheAgeLA and you should too! http://bit.ly/1or8CQ7
  • You can also forward this email to your friends and networks who care about this issue. Learn more and stay connected: YouthJustice.la and #RaisetheAgeLA.
