The New Orleans Public School Facilities

Prior to Katrina, the New Orleans Public Schools were not only challenged academically, but also the district's facilities suffered from decades of deferred maintenance and neglect. The hurricane damaged or destroyed facilities which were already in poor condition.

Therefore, in addition to reforming the academic performance of the schools, there was the parallel reformation of the Orleans Parish public school facilities. The information below is provided as a cursory overview of the School Facilities Master Plan (SFMP), a joint effort of Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB), the Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE), and the Recovery School District (RSD).
