Board of Elementary and Secondary Schools

One of the most critical issues in shaping the future of New Orleans is the improvement of our public school system.

On Wednesday, December 8th, State Superintendent, Paul Pastorek presented to the Recovery School District (RSD) Committee of the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) his revised plan titled “Conditioning for Success”. This revised proposal outlines the process for the return of public schools statewide to their respective Previous Governing Authority (PGA).

On Thursday, December 9th, the full State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) voted to approve the plan.

Citizens for 1 Greater New Orleans endorses the Superintendent’s revised plan for return of schools and supports local control of schools.

This plan allows time to develop a consensual governance model and to protect the improvements that have been made in local public school education.
